This year, Brooklawn is "BOLD"!

The Student Council Executive Board has chosen "B.O.L.D. - Building Outstanding Leaders Daily" as their theme for the 2018-2019 school year.

Throughout the year, our Student Council will work with faculty and administration to implement this student selected theme throughout the school.  We look forward to making this a B.O.L.D. year at Brooklawn!

See below how we're making a difference!  The Brooklawn Student Council is actively involved with both the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC) and National Student Council (NatStuCo). Over the years, student leaders from Brooklawn have established a tradition of excellence at the local, state and national levels that we are very proud to share!

"Once a Black Knight, always a Black Knight!"

Alex GallegoOn December 23, 2015 the Brooklawn Student Council and school community raised over $1300 in one day through "Buck & a Hoodie Day" to support the Gallego family as Alex, a former Brooklawn Student Council and NJASC State Officer recovers from severe injuries suffered in an accident. The graphic above is the campaign button from when, as a Brooklawn seventh grader, Alex ran successfully for 2005 NJASC Middle Level Representative. Friends and colleagues who saw this button on Facebook generously donated to push the total to over $2000.

Alex GallegoFour years later, while serving in the first of his two years as President of the Parsippany Hills Student Council, Alex was elected 2009 NJASC State President. Throughout high school and college, Alex continued to serve the student leaders of New Jersey as a Junior Counselor on the NJASC Leadership Training Conference (LTC) staff. Having graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2014, Alex is now a respected Senior Counselor at LTC who shares his abundant energy passing forward his knowledge and experience to the next generation of New Jersey student leaders.

Alex GallegoOver the past decade at Brooklawn, Parsippany Hills, Penn State and through his service at LTC Alex has given so much to each person he comes in contact with. Therefore it is only natural that in this time of need, we give a little back to someone who has given so much to us. We sincerely thank you for your support of this fundraiser and send our thoughts and best wishes to Alex and his family for a speedy and full recovery. Along with the student leaders of the Garden State, we eagerly look forward to Alex's recovery and return to LTC!

The Alliance for Student Activities, a national organization dedicated to providing a unifying voice and network to promote the benefits and processes of co-curricular activities, named Brooklawn Middle School as a winner of the NATIONAL Middle School DifferenceMakers Award. Only one middle school and one high school in the United States are selected to receive this award each year.

This award was given in recognition of the "Serve The Soldiers" project carried out by the Brooklawn Student Council and its Community Service Committee. Sparked by a letter from former NJASC State Officer (and now U.S. Army Captain) Craig Zdaniewicz, the students of Brooklawn collected hundreds of cards, letters, and personal items for the soldiers of his unit stationed in Afghanistan. These items filled fifteen large postal boxes and were shipped from Parsippany to the 19th U.S. Army Combat Engineer Battalion in Afghanistan.

Their appreciation is shown in the photo below, with Capt. Zdaniewicz standing in the lower left corner.  The battalion also sent us a flag that flew over their camp in Afghanistan; it is pictured above, along with a certificate from the US Army, in a plaque that now hangs in Room B-16.

Thank You Brooklawn!

The entire Brooklawn school community salutes Captain Zdaniewicz and all of our armed forces, thanking them for their selfless and tireless dedication to protecting our country and working toward a better world. We would also like to thank all the students, parents, and faculty members who wrote letters, made cards, or donated items as part of "Serve The Soldiers". It was YOUR efforts that made a real difference not only with the men and women of the 19th Combat Engineer Battalion, but in our own school and community as its' student body gained a true appreciation for the valuable service of these men and women to our nation.
